DIY - Making a Wind Power Generator

Taking a motor from an old exercise treadmill and some PVC pipe, John Park constructs a wind powered generator. The electrical power may not be enough to get your home off the grid, but the great thing about the project is how it explains in simple terms the technology involved in turning wind into free electricity.

This is excellent recycling. The motor is probably the most durable part of the treadmill, yet all that engineering just goes to the dump when the whole device fails.

This sort of stuff should be taught in schools.

I was thinking the same thing. I see these tread mills at yard sales etc. all the time with some little thing wrong with them and you know they are ending up at the dump.

Taught in schools? Now that would be bad for the economy! sic
